Planning your wedding day timeline is one of the best things you can do to ensure a smooth and stress-free experience—not just for you but for your photographer as well! After nearly a decade in wedding photography, I’ve found that having a well-structured schedule allows me to capture every heartfelt moment, from the quiet excitement of getting ready to the golden-hour magic before the dance floor opens up. Here’s a breakdown of an ideal wedding day timeline to ensure we capture stunning, story-driven images you’ll cherish forever.

Getting Ready & Detail Shots (12:30 PM - 1:00 PM)

Your wedding day begins with capturing the beautiful details that set the tone for your celebration. I’ll photograph your dress, rings, invitation suite, shoes, and sentimental items before moving on to those final touches of hair and makeup. These images tell the full story of your day, from the quiet anticipation to the joyful excitement of putting on your dress.

Photography Tip:

Have all your details gathered in one spot, like a keepsake box, so I can capture them quickly and efficiently while you finish getting ready!

Bridal Prep & Posed Getting Ready Shots (12:15 PM - 1:00 PM)

Once you’re ready, I’ll capture candid and posed moments—zipping up your dress, the teary-eyed reaction of your mom or best friend, and those fun champagne-toasting moments with your bridesmaids.

Photography Tip:

Choose a getting-ready space with lots of natural light! Soft, diffused light makes for the most flattering and dreamy bridal portraits.

The First Look (1:30 PM - 1:45 PM)

This is one of my favorite moments of the day! A first look is an intimate, private moment where you and your partner see each other before the ceremony. It’s emotional, romantic, and allows for more portrait time together!

Photography Tip:

Consider exchanging love letters or private vows during your first look for an extra-special moment to capture.

Couple’s Portraits (1:45 PM - 2:00 PM)

Right after the first look, we’ll take advantage of the fresh emotions and excitement for some romantic bride and groom portraits. This time allows you to soak in the moment together before the whirlwind of the day begins.

Bridal Party Portraits (2:30 PM - 3:30 PM)

Next, we’ll capture fun and elegant bridal party photos—first separately with the bridesmaids and groomsmen, then all together! These are the joyful, energetic moments with your closest friends that add so much personality to your wedding album.

Photography Tip:

Make sure your bridal party is ready and on time so we can keep everything running smoothly and capture a variety of shots!

Ceremony & Family Portraits (4:30 PM - 5:30 PM)

The moment you’ve been waiting for—your ceremony! I’ll be capturing every emotion: the groom’s reaction, your walk down the aisle, and that unforgettable first kiss. After the ceremony, we’ll move right into family portraits while everyone is still together.

Photography Tip:

Have a list of must-have family groupings prepared in advance to make this process quick and efficient!

Cocktail Hour & More Couple Portraits (5:30 PM - 6:00 PM)

While guests enjoy cocktail hour, we’ll sneak away for a few more couple portraits. This is a great time to take advantage of the golden light and a relaxed, just-married glow.

Golden Hour Portraits (8:15 PM - 8:30 PM)

Just before I leave for the night, we’ll step outside for a quick golden-hour session. These photos are truly breathtaking, with the soft, dreamy light wrapping you in warmth. It’s the perfect way to end your wedding day story on a magical note.

Photography Tip:

Plan a short break in the reception schedule for these golden-hour shots—you won’t regret it!
